I was very happy to be invited as an Artist in Residence to the cosmopolitan Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver for the weekend of October 28 and 29, 2011. During that time, in the lobby of the hotel, I did a demonstration of a small still life painting. Hotel staff and the Howe Street Gallery worked together and arranged to hang a show of my recent work which was displayed in the exquisite lobby of the hotel for the next two weeks.

The Federation of Canadian Artists annual Board of Governors’ meeting and signature jury took place on March 6, 2011. The jury process involved numerous applicants’ works reviewed by the Board of Governors’ jury of Senior Signature members. Out of the many applicants from across Canada the jury elected three Senior Signature status members, and eleven Associate Signature status members. Tanya received her Senior designation of SFCA Signature status with the highest number of votes received out of both categories of applicants this year. Publication of this election was made in the May/June 2011 Issue of Art Avenue magazine.
Phoenix Art Workshop, the Richmond Artist Guild, Britannia Heritage Shipyards, local business partners and all the artists and volunteers showed up for an absolutely amazing inaugural event. The public’s response was tremendous with overwhelming support for hosting the event next year. Tanya was voted one of the top 10 “People’s Choice” and her plein air painting was purchased by the owner of a local Steveston business. The following picture appeared in local newspaper, The Richmond News.
Tanya’s painting Tin Lizzy was awarded Finalist in the International Scottsdale Raymar Art Competition. Tanya was one of ten finalists out of 364 applicants in this International competition.

Finalist Award Sponsor: Raymar Art Tin Lizzy, Oil 12 x 24 Judge’s Comments: Solid design (hints of Wyeth) draws the viewer into a timeless scene – nostalgic, warm and sun bathed. Wonderful attention to the worn/weathered textures of the barn. The details of the old car and interior space draw the viewer in..and then keep the eye moving around the painting. Great play of color temperature. Strong abstract composition. Fun title – Randall Sexton |
The Art Show component of the 65th Annual Steveston Salmon Festival is a wonderful opportunity for artists to showcase their work. Tanya is delighted once again to be a participant artist as well as this year’s Coordinator of the annual event which is held in the Village she proudly calls home.
